The majority of individuals reading this that will fit the role will have, at some point in their careers, worked at some of the bigger named Training Providers such as QA, 3aaa, Estio, maybe even a Firebrand or Arch/Avado.

You know, big infrastructure, big brand name that gives them power across the market and as such attracts various employers.

But on the flip side, quality may dwindle, or a ‘bums on seats’ attitude, although never admitted, can become present – come on, we know it’s true. When a provider gets to a certain size the battle of quality vs bottom line can become quite a challenge.

These challenges, these bug bears that are often spoken to us as recruiters, will not be present in this role or with this provider.

I’m not saying it’s all roses and fairies by the way, I’m just saying the complaints of working with a huge employer will not occur here.

This provider is essentially a start up, so that will bring a new set of challenges for you to face! Believe me when I say though, this business will grow and establish itself as a quality driven, learner focus IT & management specific, training provider within the UK Apprenticeship market.

The director here has worked at 3 of the names I’ve highlighted above, and was an integral part of one during their period of growth.

Starting from scratch has always been an ambition, and to build a quality driven provider from the start is something that they will achieve. To prove this is more than lip service, many providers will look at sales first then infrastructure; this is very much a chicken or the egg decision for many FE leaders. This business has opted for the opposite, build an infrastructure, build a quality curriculum first and then go to market.

It's still very early days, but they have plans to grow quickly within the first 2 years, where the team will grow from 5 to circa 20 individuals in the next 12-18 months, if not more.

So this gives you a little flavour of who they are, why they exist, and what they want to achieve.

Purely focusing on IT and Management based Apprenticeship standards, this is their niche, and we know that in the current market it is providers with a niche/specialism that will excel over the next few years, not the big clunky jack of all trades corporates.

The role – if you’re still reading, you already know the role. IT Technical Skills Coach – you’ll already be in a similar role to be considered for this position.

We are going to start of with looking for Skills Coaches on the systems and network side, so coaches/trainers who can deliver the Infrastructure Technician, and Network Engineer standards – they will also be delivering two of the BCS’s new standards which include similar skill sets. Bonus points if you can tell me what these new programmes are.

So without the bullet point checklist job ads, you’re going to need to be current on the IT Apprenticeship standards, have experience at successfully guiding learners through EPA, the necessary qualifications and experience to deliver, Vendor quals etc, and be a qualified coach/trainer/assessor.

Now, we have a remit to continuously recruit for this organisation over the next 12-18 months for Skills Coaches in this specialism as they grow their team. So we will endeavour to keep you updated as we proceed, but whether you are actively looking, or just enjoyed the read and want to find out some more for in the future, I want to be hearing from you.
