We are working with a school in Kings Norton who are looking for a SEN Science Technician from January 2018.

To work as part of a team in striving to provide the best possible quality of service to secondary aged children with social, emotional and mental health disabilities.

To provide support for Teachers within the Science Department of the school through the preparation of equipment and materials, maintenance and monitoring of stock inventories and basic routine maintenance and repair tasks on machinery and equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Preparation and distribution of materials and equipment necessary to meet the lesson plans of the teaching and learning team on a day to day basis.
* Clearing of specialist teaching areas and equipment in advance of domestic services.
* Carry out routine inspections, safety checks and maintenance of equipment and apparatus in accordance with best practice and guidance available from CLEAPSS and/or manufacturers recommendations.
* Arrange for maintenance, inspections, testing and repairs with outside organisations and manufacturers in accordance with legislation and best practice.
* Ensure that incidents such as damage and spillages are reported and dealt with appropriately in the labs and workshops.
* Maintain an up to date inventory of equipment and materials, including carrying out an annual stock check.
* Assist with the demonstration of techniques and activities to pupils as required.
* Provide in-class technical support to pupils as required.
* Ensure that all activities within the department are carried out with due regard to Health and Safety.
* Prepare and maintain departmental displays in accordance with guidance from the Directors of Learning/responsible classroom Teachers.
* Accompany teaching and learning colleagues on field trips if appropriate and as requested.
* Construct, test and clean Science apparatus as required for experiments.
* Preparation of solutions, samples, cultures, plates and slides in accordance with agreed procedures.
* Ensure that the Science prep-room is maintained in a neat, tidy and ordered fashion at all times making the issue and storage of materials, chemicals and equipment a smooth and safe process.

GENERAL

* You have a duty to promote and safeguard the personal development, behaviour and welfare of children and young people you are responsible for and come into contact with, establishing a purposeful working atmosphere.
* Ensure all tasks and activities within the department are carried out with due regard to health and safety and that Health and Safety legislation and guidance is adhered to at all times.
* Ensure that chemicals are stored, handled, prepared and disposed of in accordance with CLEAPSS guidance.
* Develop and maintain a set of "Haz-cards" (CLEAPSS) relevant to all experiments and processes.
* There is an expectation that all staff will help to ensure that the school buildings and environment meet with all related Health and Safety regulations and promote a stimulating learning experience. Report any need for maintenance and repair to the appropriate person.
* Be aware of and comply with all school policies and procedures.
* Undertake appropriate professional development including adhering to the principle of performance management.
