The purpose of the role is to lead and inspire your teams to provide excellent teaching and learning and an outstanding experience for learners. The success of learners and the drive for continual improvement will be your key driver. To provide outstanding strategic an operational leadership through effective development, planning, delivery and monitoring of the curriculum and of the learner experience.

As a member of the Curriculum Operations Group you will ensure close liaison and co-operation with Curriculum Managers, trainers and tutors and the Management and Leadership Team to deliver the company’s strategic plan and key objectives.

You will be part of the curriculum management team reporting directly to the Curriculum Manager

You will be accountable for the success of the English and maths delivery service team. This success will be measured through high achievement rates, high quality teaching and learning, student satisfaction surveys and working with individuals to work towards achievement of qualifications to support individual’s progression plans.

The post holder will be responsible for the development, growth and operational leadership of the English and maths provision across the curriculum area. In doing so, you will ensure that the curriculum not only meets the needs of employers and addresses local, regional and national skill needs but that students achieve at a high level and meet target grades. There will be an expectation of consistency of quality across all the courses.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:


• To work with the Curriculum Manager to ensure that the curriculum offer and delivery plan meets the needs of diverse groups of students, employers, stakeholders and government agendas.

• To plan, implement with your team, monitor and manage the intake of new students during enrolment to ensure every student undertakes initial assessment for English and maths, diagnostic assessment and all relevant prior achievement are gathered and recorded in one standardised electronic system. Identify individual students who are exempt, based on evidence.

• Prepare an induction presentation to be delivered by the Curriculum Team Leader to ensure all students understand the requirements for maths and English as an integral part of Apprentice Programme.
• Plan staff timetables to ensure all English and maths classes have suitable qualified staffing, whilst maximising staff utilisation. Provide staffing cover for absence to ensure continuity for students.

• To ensure the student experience for maths and English is varied, has breadth and enables all students to reach their full potential.
• To ensure every student is enrolled to the appropriate English and/or maths qualification by the agreed deadlines, to meet the requirements of the Apprenticeship Programme.
• To lead your teams to ensure that outstanding teaching, learning, training and assessment is provided in all sessions, and meets the needs of individuals based on group profiles, ensuring the requirements of the Framework for Learning are met.
• Monitor and manage attendance ensuring timely communication and follow up with the relevant tutor.
• To ensure the tutors set meaningful targets for development and undertake and record progress reviews on SMART assessor.
• To ensure the rigorous tracking of progress of individual students; identification of at risk students and ensuring appropriate support is in place in a timely manner.
• To ensure the timely completion of reports to employers and other stakeholders.

• To lead team meetings and liaise with curriculum manager and trainers to ensure all requirements are met.

• To ensure that students, staff and visitors operate within a safe and healthy environment and manner.

• To promote a culture of positive behaviour, making appropriate interventions to ensure success.


• To implement the Framework for Learning across all aspects of provision.

• To implement the teaching, learning and assessment observation policy.

• To propose appropriate CPD for teams, utilising information from lesson observations, student and employer feedback, awarding organisations and other relevant stakeholders.

• To ensure that quality assurance and quality improvement processes are embedded and lead to sustained, measurable improvements.

People Management

• To lead, inspire and support your teams and encourage creativity in order to embed excellence in teaching, learning and assessment.

• To line manage your direct reports effectively; motivating the team to achieve their potential whilst managing underperformance or misconduct in accordance with the college procedures.

• To ensure that every member of staff is appraised in line with the company performance review process.

• To establish and maintain effective channels of communication within teams and to other departments.
