Job Description

Year 1 Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support)

Location: Mansfield (NG20)

Start Date: Monday 13th April - Ongoing

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil. The child is currently working at an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) academic level and accesses learning within an alternative provision setting within the school.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in a child's educational journey by providing consistent, tailored support to meet their individual needs on an ongoing basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with additional needs, both in the classroom and alternative provision setting
  • Support learning activities adapted to EYFS level
  • Assist in managing and supporting behaviour in a positive and consistent manner
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, and wider staff team
  • Follow and implement the child's EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan)
  • Meet the child at the start of each day and ensure a consistent handover with parents/carers
  • Support the child's social, emotional, and academic development

About the Child

  • Diagnosis of Autism
  • Has an EHCP in place
  • Engages in learning at an EYFS level

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Hold a DBS on the update service or be willing to have one processes.

  • Hold an in date safeguarding certificate or be willing to complete one
  • Experience working with children with SEND, particularly Autism
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection
