Job Description

Role Overview:

Academics is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a SEN primary school in Chester on a temporary, supply basis. In this role, you will provide essential support to students with sensory needs, helping them to access learning and participate fully in the school environment.

Key Responsibilities as a Teaching Assistant:

  • Support students with sensory needs in the classroom, providing assistance with sensory activities and tailored interventions.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to adapt lessons and resources to meet individual student needs.
  • Help students manage their sensory challenges, using strategies to enhance focus, participation, and engagement.
  • Foster a nurturing, inclusive learning environment where students feel safe, supported, and motivated.
  • Assist with daily routines, ensuring that students' sensory equipment or tools are used effectively.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and recording of student progress, providing feedback to teachers and SEN staff.

Requirements for a Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with children with sensory needs, either in a school setting or similar.
  • A patient, understanding approach to supporting children with SEN.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to the dynamic needs of students with sensory challenges.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all students.

Desirable:

  • Experience or knowledge of sensory integration techniques and strategies.
  • Relevant qualifications in SEN, Childcare, or Education.
