We have a post for a 0.5 FTE Teacher of Geography and Politics within the humanities programme team. As a Teacher of Geography and Politics your delivery will focus on our AS/A-level programmes. We are with the Edexcel examination board for both A-level geography and politics.  In the AS year our current units are globalisation, world at risk and geographical investigations, and in the A2 year contested planet and geographical research.  Students have also been undertaking fieldwork for their AS unit. The programme team offer includes:

A-levels in: geography, history, government and politics, philosophy, religious studies.

The team also teaches on language programmes, the AQA extended project and some classes of GCSE.

The team has in recent years developed a series of enhancement and enrichment activities. Our debating society for instance enjoys success in national competitions.  We have also initiated a range of UK and overseas residential visits to students.

You will work well with 16-19 year olds and contribute to a student-centred environment both inside and outside of the classroom.  As a teacher, you will be innovative and reflective, with a genuine interest in young people and how they learn, and committed to supporting students in achieving success.

If you are passionate about supporting learners to achieve their full potential, then we would love to hear from you.

We will offer you a warm welcome to NewVIc - a place where all ambitions are celebrated. As one of the largest sixth form colleges in London (more than 3,000 students), we are a non-selective, diverse and secular college, proud to have launched over 50,000 young people onto university, training and employment since we were founded in 1992.

In 2019, the College was graded overall as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, and ‘Outstanding’ for our provision of personal development, behaviour and welfare. We are very proud to be a three-time silver award winner at the Pearson National Teaching Awards, where in 2020, we made history by becoming the first ever provider to win two awards in a single year.

At NewVIc, we have a unique commitment to social impact - which means we support our staff and students to have a positive effect on the world. We believe that everybody has the power to make a positive impact on society - small changes that add up to make the world a better place.

Our motto is: Diverse in Ambition, United in Success

What’s in it for you?

We offer the opportunity to help develop your skills and knowledge in a friendly team environment, plus a range of benefits including TPS, a career average pension scheme (LGPS), employee assistance programme, onsite parking, cycle to work, onsite canteen, TECH Scheme, Eye Care support and full access to the onsite gym.

Equality, diversity and inclusion
We are committed to creating and promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce that better reflects the wider community we support. We particularly welcome applicants from groups currently under-represented in senior roles, including females, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), people with disabilities and from the LGBTQ community.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of our students and expect everybody working for the College to share this commitment.  We actively seek DBS clearance checks for applications of employment as part of our safeguarding procedures.

This role will be starting as soon as possible after 22 August 2022.
