We are looking for someone who is not only experienced in supporting children with special educational needs but is also proficient in using Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Makaton, and skilled at introducing innovative strategies such as bucket time to enhance engagement and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide targeted one-to-one support to a pre-verbal nursery pupil, employing PECS and Makaton to facilitate effective communication and engagement.

Ensure a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that promotes the pupil's physical activity, particularly their interest in climbing, while ensuring their safety.

Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCO, and external professionals to develop, implement, and evaluate individual education plans (IEPs) tailored to the pupil's needs.

Monitor and document the pupil's progress, adapting strategies as necessary to meet their evolving needs.

Essential Skills:

Proficiency in PECS and Makaton: Demonstrated ability to effectively use PECS and Makaton to support communication with pre-verbal children.

Innovative Engagement Strategies: Experience in introducing and implementing strategies such as bucket time to enhance pupil engagement and learning.

Adaptive Learning Design: Creativity in adapting activities to suit the unique needs of the child, encouraging safe exploration and physical development.

Collaborative Teamwork: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the pupil's holistic development.

Observational and Reporting Skills: Ability to closely observe the pupil's behaviour and progress, providing detailed feedback to the educational team and parents.

Proven experience working with children with SEND, particularly those who are non-verbal or pre-verbal.

A deep understanding of and experience with PECS, Makaton, and bucket time or similar engagement strategies.

Qualifications in childcare, education, or related fields are preferred. Relevant professional development or training in PECS, Makaton, and SEND support strategies will be highly regarded.

A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach, with a passion for supporting children to achieve their potential.
