About the Role:

We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant secondary school in Brent. The successful candidate will work closely with students and staff to provide tailored support, helping students overcome learning barriers and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-class support to students with special educational needs (SEN) and additional learning needs.
  • Assist teachers in the delivery of tailored lessons, ensuring that students with specific needs can access the curriculum effectively.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to help them achieve learning goals and objectives.
  • Support students with a range of needs, including learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, and physical or sensory impairments.
  • Monitor and report on student progress to the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and teaching staff.
  • Help to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment, fostering confidence and independence in students.
  • Assist with the development of individual education plans (IEPs) and strategies for supporting students' specific needs.
  • Support students during extracurricular activities and school trips where required.

Key Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a Learning Support Assistant or have experience working with children with special educational needs.
  • A passion for supporting students with special educational needs and helping them overcome challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and the responsibilities involved in working with young people.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate and encourage students.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of specific learning difficulties (e.g., autism, dyslexia, ADHD) and experience working with students who have these needs.
  • Experience in using strategies and interventions to support students' academic and personal development.
  • Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent.
