SEMH Teaching Assistant - Primary School
Aspire People are currently recruiting for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a primary school setting. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and succeed both academically and emotionally.
The school is looking for a strong and proactive individual who can support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within the classroom environment. While the role may involve some targeted support and occasional 1:1 intervention, the position is primarily classroom-based, supporting pupils across the school day.
This role would suit candidates with previous experience working within UK primary schools, as well as those from transferable backgrounds such as youth work, sports coaching, residential care, mentoring, or behaviour support.
The Role Will Include:
Supporting pupils with SEMH needs within the classroom
Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom routines
Helping pupils regulate emotions and remain engaged with learning
Supporting behaviour management strategies positively and consistently
Delivering small-group intervention sessions when required
Encouraging pupil confidence, independence, and social development
Working collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and parents
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Have experience supporting children or young people with additional needs or behavioural challenges
Be calm, patient, and resilient under pressure
Have strong communication and relationship-building skills
Be confident managing challenging behaviour positively
Have a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils
Be adaptable and proactive within a classroom setting
