SEMH Teaching Assistant (Year 5 - 1:1 Support)
Location: Bournville, B30
Weekly Rate: 480- 525
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)
Contract: Long Term to Permanent

Long Term Futures are recruiting for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in Bournville (B30). This full-time role will focus on supporting the child both in lessons and with emotional regulation throughout the school day.

The successful candidate will offer consistency, patience and calm guidance, using a nurturing and trauma-informed approach to help the child engage positively in learning and develop emotional resilience.



The Role:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with SEMH needs
  • Support the pupil's learning in lessons, adapting tasks where needed
  • Help with emotional regulation using agreed strategies and interventions
  • Build a consistent, trusted relationship to promote emotional safety
  • Encourage participation, independence and positive behaviour
  • Recognise signs of dysregulation and intervene calmly and effectively
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals


The Ideal Candidate:

  • Level 2/3 TA qualification (or equivalent)
  • At least 1 year's experience working in a primary school setting
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Skilled in trauma-informed practice and regulation strategies
  • Calm, emotionally resilient and confident in a 1:1 setting
  • Flexible and responsive to individual needs
  • Committed to inclusion, communication and teamwork
