The Health & Safety Tutor Role
Be part of a transformative journey in the lives of learners at HMP Millsike by helping them gain essential qualifications in Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) and Health & Safety. This dynamic role involves delivering GQA-accredited training, using restorative practices to support rehabilitation, and preparing prisoners for a secure future in construction.
The CSCS and Health & Safety Tutor will lead small classes of up to 12 prisoners, delivering both theoretical and practical instruction to prepare learners for CSCS certification and health and safety requirements in the construction industry. You ll employ adaptive teaching methods to meet diverse learner needs and collaborate with prison staff and stakeholders to align education with individual rehabilitation and employment goals.
Health & Safety Tutor Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct GQA-accredited CSCS and Health & Safety sessions, guiding learners through essential skills and certification requirements.
- Foster a rehabilitative classroom where learners can take responsibility, reflect on their growth, and focus on their career aspirations.
- Utilise individualised learning plans and tailored strategies to support all learners, including those with neurodivergent needs or literacy challenges.
- Integrate practical skills that enhance employability in construction, emphasising health and safety as vital workplace competencies.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are used safely and responsibly, adhering to the Local Security Strategy (LSS).
- Work closely with Learning Support Practitioners, employers, and prison staff to create a holistic support network aligned with each learner s progress and goals.
- Participate in curriculum development and self-audit activities to maintain high-quality standards and compliance with GQA and prison requirements.
Requirements:
- Relevant Qualifications: Level 3 or higher qualification in Health & Safety, Construction, or a related field.
- Teaching Credentials: Hold or be willing to work toward a full teaching qualification (e.g., PTLLS, AET, CET, PGCE, Cert Ed).
- Experience in Safety Training: Knowledgeable in delivering health and safety education with a commitment to fostering a culture of safety.
