Position: Head of EPA 
Contract Type: 12 Months Maternity Cover
Location: Remote
Reporting To: Director of Awarding

Are you passionate about leading quality, compliance, and operations within the education and training sector? We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join our team as the Head of Quality, Compliance, and Operations on a 12-month maternity cover contract.

The Role

As the Head of Quality, Compliance, and Operations, you will be responsible for ensuring that all assessments, qualifications, and other products comply with regulatory standards and internal processes. Your role will involve leading the operational, assessment, and quality teams to deliver End-Point Assessment (EPA) activities in alignment with service level agreements (SLAs), regulatory guidance, and assessment plans.

You will stay up-to-date with industry developments, ensuring our quality assurance strategy and policies are effectively implemented across all processes. This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity and excellence of our assessments and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily End-Point Assessment operations, from apprentice registration to certification.
  • Allocate Independent End-Point Assessors (IEPAs) efficiently to ensure compliance and timely assessments.
  • Monitor assessment capacity and collaborate with the recruitment team to address staffing needs.
  • Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and standardisation activities for IEPAs and IQAs, ensuring full operational readiness.
  • Support Gateway sign-off processes, ensuring compliance and preparedness for assessment.
  • Liaise with IEPAs to ensure the quality and compliance of assessments.
  • Conduct quality and compliance checks, including Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) when needed.
  • Ensure all assessments adhere to quality assurance standards and certification processes.
  • Act as the primary user and trainer for the EPA management system.
  • Manage risk processes across the organisation.
  • Chair the Quality, Risk, and Compliance Committee, reporting outcomes to senior leadership.
  • Implement and oversee appeals, reasonable adjustments, complaints, incidents, and special considerations processes.
  • Monitor ongoing assessor compliance, including standardisation, conflict of interest, and CPD requirements.
  • Manage and deliver standardisation sessions and IQA observations.
  • Act as the Responsible Officer for regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance and effective communication.
  • Maintain and update processes, policies, and guidance documents.
  • Ensure timely achievement of operational SLAs and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Support continuous improvement in product and assessment development.
  • Provide written reports as required.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Awarding to enhance systems and team performance.
  • Represent the organisation at key stakeholder meetings, forums, and working groups.

What We're Looking For:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in leading a quality and compliance team within the awarding sector.
  • Assessor and IQA qualifications.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks for End-Point Assessment.
  • Level 2 English and Maths qualifications.
  • Outstanding organisational and time management skills.
  • Full, clean UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work independently with a flexible and problem-solving approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in IT packages and confidence with web-based systems.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in work tasks.

Desirable:

  • Experience as a Responsible Officer for Ofqual.
  • Working towards or holding an EQA qualification.
