EYFS Teaching Assistant (SEN & Communication Support - Reception & Year 1)
Location: Rugby, CV22
Weekly Rate: 455- 480
Start Date: 01/09/2025
Hours: Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)
Contract: Long Term to Permanent

We are seeking a caring and proactive EYFS Teaching Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs in a mainstream primary school in Rugby (CV22). This full-time position is based across Reception and Year 1, focusing on children with speech, language and communication needs, ASD, and developmental delay.

The role involves supporting learning through play-based and structured approaches, developing early language skills, and helping pupils access daily routines in a calm and nurturing environment. Experience with Makaton, personal care, and autism support is highly desirable.

The Role:

  • Support pupils in Reception and Year 1 with SEN, particularly speech & language and ASD

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support focused on communication and interaction

  • Use visual aids, Makaton, and routines to support understanding

  • Assist with personal care where necessary

  • Encourage independence, engagement, and positive behaviour through structured play

  • Work closely with class teachers and SENCO to deliver tailored support strategies

  • Help create an inclusive, sensory-aware classroom environment

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Level 2/3 Early Years or Teaching Assistant qualification

  • Experience supporting children with SEN in Reception and/or Year 1

  • Makaton trained or confident using alternative communication tools

  • Comfortable assisting with personal care

  • Calm, nurturing, and patient approach to supporting early learning

  • Able to adapt creatively to different needs and learning styles
