Autism Teaching Assistant - Monmouth

1:1 Support September Start

A friendly Monmouth primary school is looking for a calm, reliable Autism Teaching Assistant to work closely with a Year 4 pupil who benefits hugely from routine, reassurance, and familiar adults. You'll be part of a small, supportive team around the child, working closely with the class teacher and SENCO.

What the role will include:

  • Working 1:1 with a primary-aged pupil with autism
  • Helping the pupil settle into routines and navigate transitions
  • Supporting communication and emotional regulation in a calm, low-pressure way
  • Adapting activities so learning feels accessible and manageable
  • Encouraging independence at a pace that suits the child

What the school is looking for:

  • Someone with experience supporting children with autism or additional needs
  • A naturally calm, patient, and grounded approach
  • The ability to build trust slowly and consistently
  • Good judgement and a team-focused attitude
  • A genuine interest in helping a child feel more confident in school
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to apply
