Protocol are pleased to be working with a further education college based in Rotherham in their search for a Welfare Officer to act as the first point of contact for Welfare and Safeguarding within the college.

As a member of the Safeguarding team you will support learners who make disclosures, be an advocate for the support provided by college and external organisations. You will also assess the needs of learners while making internal and external referrals where necessary. therefore we are looking for an organised, flexible and enthusiastic individual who is fully committed to the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults to help students reach their full potential.

This role is offering Full time hours (37hrs per week) and is running on a temporary cover basis initially for ~4 weeks.

Duties will include:
Assessing the needs of learners, selecting an appropriate intervention, implementing and monitoring the impact of that intervention and adjusting if required to ensure a positive outcome for the learner.
Making appropriate referrals to other support internally and externally e.g. mentoring, counselling etc.
Being a first port of contact for safeguarding and welfare concerns, as a member of the Safeguarding team you will support learners who make disclosures.
Supporting the counselling screening assessment process.

Have you got what it takes?
The ideal candidate would hold:
* Experience of working in an educational environment
* Experience in a 1:1 support/mentoring/counselling role
* Experience of working with behavioural issues and vulnerable learners
* Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy or equivalent
* Level 3 Safeguarding Training or willingness to work towards
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
