TITLE                         :    Job Coach

RESPONSIBLE TO  :    Inclusive Learning Curriculum Leader

RESPONSIBLE FOR:    Supporting young people with perform their work duties in targeted employment or WEX

Job Purpose: A job coach is an individual who is employed to help people with SEND learn and perform their duties in the workplace. A job coach may work with individuals one-on-one and/or in a small group. In addition to working on skills related to performing specific job tasks, a job coach also helps with interpersonal skills necessary in the workplace.

In common with all other staff:

To support the College’s mission, vision & strategic objectives.

In common with all support staff:

Participate in College-wide projects & tasks.

To work collaboratively to meet the specific needs of workload peaks.

Such other duties of a similar nature commensurate with the grade as may be required from time to time.  This may, on occasion, require work in other locations/sites of the College & work outside of regular daytime hours.

Attend & contribute to team meetings.

Consult & feedback to colleagues & students as necessary, passing on appropriate information to other team members.

Major Tasks

To take full responsibility for groups of learners and for instructing them in areas identified in provided work plans or assessments

Assist the Curriculum Leader co-ordinating and securing work placements & paid employment for learners

Working alongside learners, in a range of work placements, on a 1:1 basis or small groups, until learners become independent. This may involve early starts, late finishes, and weekend work.

Ability to work on a flexible basis, including evenings and weekends

Assist employers in the adaptation of the working environment where necessary

Ability to carry out a health and safety risk assessment

Plan and implement individualised programmes, including travel training, where appropriate. Working alongside learners until they become more independent

Carry out regular assessments of learners and maintain records

Accompany students on related trips, as necessary

To provide support to students working in the college shop and induct support staff in the expectations and processes of this.

Working with others

To take account of and promote the College Equal Opportunities Policy in all relationships with others.

To work with the Assistant Principal, Curriculum Leader to ensure quality of Job Coach provision

To foster and maintain a positive team ethos through effective communication, co-operative planning and sharing of knowledge, skills

Training and Development of Staff

To identify continuous professional development needs in relation to Job Coaching

To contribute to continuous professional development activities at the College relating Job coaching

To assist the Curriculum Leader in ensuring that new staff are inducted into the role of the Job coach

To undertake training in accordance with the College requirements relating to Job Coaching

To take any necessary action to ensure compliance with professional standards and the rules and policies of The College.

Relations with Parents, Responsible Adults and Families: To develop and promote positive relations with employers, parents, responsible adults and families.

Relations with Other Bodies: To collaborate in establishing and promoting effective relationships with the local community and appropriate organisations and agencies, to the benefit of the College.

Resources: To work with others to provide statistical data on all aspects of WEX and employment for SEND students at the college. 

Policy development and implementation: To ensure the implementation and participate in the review of all processes relating to Job Coaching, as directed by the Governing Body and Senior Management Team.

Additional Information: Working Arrangements

Hours of work: Full time 35 hours per week, TTO at 39 weeks.

Flexible working hours depending on the need of the organisation.

Will need to a full enhanced DBS
