An east London school are looking to appoint an enthusiastic person with relevant experience and a high level of personal drive and energy, who will be able to contribute to improving the skills/results of the students of the School.  The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated and an exceptionally well organised individual with the ability to work well within a team setting.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support for both to Resistant Materials, Graphics classes along with Art.  Additional to this, there will be responsibility for preparing materials for the above subjects and ensuring that Food Technology rooms meet the Health & Safety standards before each lesson.

The successful candidate will be required to have a good standard of practical knowledge, a good understanding and ability to use relevant equipment/technology and tools. 

The ideal candidate will be available for an immediate start and also hold an enhanced DBS.

Purpose of post

Under the instruction/guidance of senior staff: To provide a high level of technical support to the design & Technology Department.  To provide support to the Head of Department.  To promote/support student achievement through the role of technician.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparation of equipment and tools to support curriculum development
  • Maintenance of workshop tools and equipment
  • Ordering stock and maintain inventories of materials and equipment
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations
  • Routine checking of equipment and reporting faults to the Head of Department
  •  Repairing and correcting faults which fall within the potholder’s experience
  • Arrangements for repair of equipment under the Direction of the Head of Department
  • Making items of equipment and exemplars required for teaching and/or students to use in lessons (in accordance with safety procedures)
  • Daily checking of tools and their storage
  • Giving assistance and guidance as necessary on the machines located in the workshops

Support for Pupils

  • Support pupils in accessing learning activities under the guidance of the teacher
  • Support for the Teacher
  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and productive working environment
  • Timely and accurate preparation and use of specialist equipment/resources/materials as required by staff/curriculum/lesson plans etc
  • Maintain records as requested
  • Ensure the Health & Safety and good behaviour of pupils at all times
