The Attendance Officer will work alongside key staff in school to promote excellent attendance, reduce levels of absence and work with students and families to promote high levels of attendance. 

The Attendance Officer will also support the Senior Management Team with data generation and correspondence relating to persistent absence. It is important to:
  • promote and support high levels of attendance 
  • support students in achieving their full academic potential 
  • promote a positive attendance and punctuality culture 
  • form strong relationships with parents/carer
Key Responsibilities 
  • To be responsible for recording of all attendance data and reasons for student absence ensuring no missing marks or unexplained absences remain, following up on missing reasons for absence 
  • To input data onto SIMS 
  • To be the first point of contact for all attendance issues in the school 
  • To handle all telephone calls relating to absence with confidence, using initiative as required 
  • To manage the Schools’s alert system for making parents aware of non-notified absence. 
  • To follow up on missing registrations raising immediate issues with the SMT
  • To print daily register report and deliver promptly to fire assembly point in the event of fire alarm 
  • To be responsible for organising daily checks on children at risk of truanting 
  • To carry out post registration checks identifying vulnerable students 
  • To record and monitor late arrivals 
  • To make daily telephone calls to parents of absentees as directed by the SMT 
  • To monitor particular attendance issues and refer cases to the SMT when required 
  • To provide information and alerts to Directors of Learning and Tutors so they are equipped to encourage good attendance 
  • To collate, maintain and update attendance data 
  • To attend and participate in meetings as required 
  • To liaise with Pupil Entitlement and other support services as directed 
  • To administer referrals to Pupil Entitlement as directed 
  • To produce robust school correspondence in respect of attendance, liaising with the SMT as appropriate 
  • To carry out administrative tasks associated with requests for student absence 
  • To contribute to the School attendance strategies and systems 
  • Home visits to PA students
Other Responsibilities 
  • To carry out break and lunch duties 
  • To undertake other various responsibilities or tasks as directed by Line Manager or Principal
  • To deputise on reception as required 
  • To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to Child Protection, Health & Safety, security , confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the Principal;
  •  To contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the School; 
  • To review and develop their own professional practice.
