SUMMARY OF POST

The Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for providing occupational health and safety professional leadership to all levels of staff, supporting and advising all management teams, employees and contractors throughout the business. In doing so, you will liaise closely with managers and leaders across the organisation to ensure all mandatory requirements are adhered to and excellence in health and safety processes are guaranteed. You will have a wealth of successful experience at manager level of leading and managing health & safety in complex environments. You will be responsible for leading on Health & Safety strategy, chairing the Health and Safety gorup, managing risk and delivering compliance
The Health and Safety Manager will lead upon the development and implementation of all health and safety policies and working practices, including developing a health and safety training plan for the organisation, departments and individuals.
The Health and Safety manager will contribute to Geason Training portfolio of provision by leading on the development and delivery of short courses specific to the environment in which we work.

The role will report directly to the Operations Director and will be responsible for ensuring positive and proactive approach to Health and Safety across the organisation.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Working closely with the senior management team to implement the health and safety policies and procedures in line with the business evolution
• To improve performance of current health and safety management systems.

• To support managers to maintain safe systems of work, providing specialist advice, coaching and practical support.
• Ensure that rigorous risk assessment and incident management systems are in place and followed across the organisation.


• To work in close collaboration with the management and leadership team to implement a calendar of health and safety audits and risk assessments by department and sites and ensure an action plan with SMART objectives is established to address issues identified.
• Acting as the key Health and Safety point of contact for a range of stakeholders including regulators and customers

• Ensure all training manuals are updated to reflect the operation of all machinery and systems specific to the relevant site.

• To advise the senior leadership team on the implications of current and emerging health, safety and welfare legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating actions plans to ensure compliance across the business and additional opportunities for income.

• To investigate, or where appropriate to assist others to investigate, the circumstances and causes of accidents/incidents and take necessary steps to prevent a recurrence.

• To work closely and effectively with stakeholders to ensure office safety and compliance is maintained.

Training and Development:

• To conduct Training Needs Analysis to identify any training gaps and develop and ensure action plans are in place - and communicated to the correct managers and leaders and stakeholders - to ensure Geason Training meets their legal obligations.

• To be responsible for the theoretical and practical training related to Health and Safety procedures and requirements.

• Ensure all training manuals are updated to reflect the operation of all machinery and systems specific to the relevant site.

• Assist, create and deliver health and safety induction to new staff.


Delivery of short courses

• To be responsible for the development and delivery of Health and Safety Courses required with the Construction Industry, including delivery through blended learning and virtual learning environments.

• To ensure that the requirements of the relevant awarding bodies are met.

Finance

• To plan, utilise and monitor the Health and Safety budget effectively and within financial regulations, ensuring that an agreed contribution level is achieved.

• Plan the resource requirements for the services that are the responsibility of the role.

• Ensure the effective deployment of all resources and provide value for money.

Other

• Contribute to best practice meetings and staff training as appropriate.

• Develop and maintain high levels of personal skills using feedback from assessment and continuous development reflected in a CPD log.

• Commitment to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, ensuring that this commitment is demonstrated in all aspects of the role as appropriate.

• Participate in the Staff Learning and Development, Review and Appraisal Scheme.

• Undertake such duties and/or hours of work as may reasonably be required of you, commensurate with your grade and general level of responsibility, at your main place of work or at any other establishment for which the College provides services.
