Principal Teachers currently has a vacancy for a Teacher of English to commence a full time post within a York secondary school. The Head Teacher wishes to appoint an enthusiastic and driven teacher on a long term basis starting in September. The successful applicant will need to have experience of delivering English Language and English Literature lessons to KS3 and KS4 students. Experience of teaching drama at KS3 level would also be advantageous. You will have pastoral responsibility of a Year 9 Form.

Based in the York area, the school serves a diverse catchment area and is well respected within the local community. You will become part of a thriving and experienced English Department, where working collaboratively is very much encouraged to share best practice. You will need to show your commitment to improving attainment for all and be able to deliver a stimulating and robust curriculum to Years 8, 9, 10 and 11. The Head Teacher wishes to appoint a dedicated professional, who will instil a love of learning and be able to engage students of varied abilities to drive results forward. Behaviour across the school is very good and so you will need to ensure these high standards are upheld and commit to the school’s behaviour management policy. You will also need to show your dedication to participating in the wider aspects of school life.

The successful applicant will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) recognisable in the UK
• Strong behaviour and classroom management skills
• Previous experience of teaching in the UK
• Knowledge of the current Secondary National Curriculum requirements for
English
• Enthusiasm for the role and a creative flare
• The ability to form excellent working relationships with staff and pupils from a
diverse range of backgrounds
• Experience of planning and assessment to a very high standard
• A commitment to improving attainment for all students
• A proven track record for raising attainment and achieving targets
