A Good School with outstanding features in the London Borough of Waltham Forest are looking for a Data Manager for a Maternity Cover.

Core Purpose

  • To oversee, develop and maintain the school’s use of SIMS.net and the data across the school.
  • To produce and develop clear, concise, accurate information reports to raise standards of teacher, subject, department and pupil performance.
  • To ensure that data returns are accurate and submitted on time.
  • To line manage staff.

Responsibilities

  • The management of SIMS.net and its role in raising standards across the school.
  • To advise and assist in target setting and produce detailed analysis of performance for a variety of parties including the Headteacher, OFSTED, LEA and Governing Body.
  • Prepare complex strategic and operational data for curriculum leaders, senior teachers, and the School Business Manager.
  • Produce examination results analyses immediately after the release date.
  • Provide examination entry and results analyses for the Head and DfE.
  • Check examination statistics from other bodies before publication.
  • Exercise developed training skills to facilitate the use of complex data by non-data experts to drive improved performance.
  • To respond to educational developments which have implications for data management and analyses of pupil assessment data.
  • Be responsible for the production of progress checks and reports for students.
  • Create and develop systems to enable the effective monitoring of vulnerable students.
  • Ensure that the work force census, attendance reports and other school data returns are accurate and submitted ahead of deadlines.
  • Liaise with the National Assessment Agency as required.
  • Plan and co-ordinate the school’s assessment data collection, liaising closely with teaching staff throughout the process.
  • Manage the school‘s assessment and progress tracking systems (SIMS Assessment Manager) including the capture of grades from teaching staff.
  • Ensure that reports include up to date data from progress tracking.
  • Manage processes to quality assure pupil reports.
  • Allocate and maintain student timetables and grouping records, in accordance with the school timetable and under the instruction of the appropriate Senior Leadership Team (SLT) representative.
  • Work with teachers and support staff in the development of information systems for rewards sanctions, behaviour, attendance, punctuality etc and identify through analysis emerging trends and patterns.
  • Have responsibility for, in liaison with appropriate staff, ensuring that all statistical returns to Ofsted, local and national government are accurate and submitted on time, including all aspects of the PLASC returns.
  • To line manage a team including, but not limited to, the data administrator. 
  • To liaise with RM around the configuration of the school’s SIMS tracking systems and the ‘Kaleidos’ learning platform and to ensure access is provided for parents, students and staff. 
  • To ensure that the school complies with the Data Protection Act.

General Duties

  • Perform the necessary administrative processes (e.g. mail–merges) associated with the publishing of such documentation as class lists, student timetables, Year 10 options groups.
  • Co-ordinate the maintenance of student timetables and class lists.
  • Undertake training to develop further all aspects of the school’s data management systems, and to assist in the training of other staff.
  • Ensure that the school’s MIS software is up to date working through the school’s IT Manager when update installations are required.
  • Liaise with the Learning Trust on the strategic development of the school’s data systems.
  • Maintain a detailed working knowledge of all areas of SIMS.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of the Data Protection Act and the implications that it has for managing school data.
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the Head teacher or the Deputies.
  • The postholder will need to undertake first aid and or fire warden duties if required by the School
