At Smile Education we are currently on the search for dedicated and experienced Learning Mentor who want to make a positive impact and support children and young people with Special Educational Needs. Working with children 1:1 gives you the opportunity to make a significant difference to their lives, motivating them to find a love of learning.

Smile Education is currently working with a school in Moseley that caters to children and young people aged 5-19 with a range of special educational, behavioural, and emotional needs. The school consists of small classes, where you can work 1:1 or in small groups with children and provide individual learning opportunities.  You will help pupils overcome behavioural, social or emotional problems that are affecting their learning.

The ideal applicant must be able to work as team as well as under their own initiative. Enthusiasm, a genuine interest, and experience working with children with SEN is essential. Applicants will also be required to go through our compliance screening and vetting process which includes a virtual interview, DBS checks and safeguarding training.

For the right candidates, there is immediate starts available – for the role to last until potentially the end of summer term!

To be successful in your application, it’s ideal to have experience in one or more of the following:

 

- Be a recent graduate (graduated in the last 24 months) from any University course. A degree in education is preferred but is not essential. 
-  Exceptionally dedicated to supporting pupils with special educational needs.
- Willing to learn, working as part of a committed team and taking on guidance from others.
- 6 months or more experience working with children with SEN, moderate learning difficulties, and/or emotional, behaviour and social needs.

 

About the role: 

You will be supporting children 1:1 and delivering extra support to young people with complex needs

- Providing support and guidance to children and young people who are experiencing difficulties in learning due to social, emotional, or behavioural problems or other issues.
- Supporting students with Special educational needs – including Autism, Moderate learning difficulties and behavioural needs such as ADHD and Emotional behavioural disorder.
- You will be supporting teachers in managing pupil behaviour using de-escalation techniques and behaviour strategies.
- You will be working to provide tailored activities that cater to individual needs of the child
- You will work closely with the SENCO and other multi agencies to ensure the child is receiving the correct level of support

- You will use your kind and caring nature to provide a safe space for young people to grow and develop
- Supporting the class teacher by following daily session plans to enable the students to get the best quality education

- Be confident and comfortable support children with complex behaviour on 1:1 and small group basis.
- Show a commitment to safeguarding and undertaking training
- Working with young people aged 5-19 to provide inclusive learning opportunities and high quality and engaging experiences.
