With advancements in technology and science and the impact of globalization, so come changes for jobs and occupations. New jobs are being created and traditional ones are disappearing in the course of time.

Long gone are the heydays of goldsmiths and wheelwrights, but an element of those jobs lives on in one form or another. While there are certainly more than twelve occupations that will stand the test of time -- like artists, authors or politicians -- check out this list of jobs that have staying power:

Doctor

Why it's everlasting: New developments in science found cures for many diseases and people are living longer and healthier lives. This trend will continue, but we still get bumped, bruised and diseased we will always need people to investigate and treat our medical conditions.

Waste Disposal Manager

Why it's everlasting: Humans create a lot of waste and the amount won't decrease in the foreseeable future. We will always need people to maintain and relocate our messes.

Teacher (our favourite!)

Why it's everlasting: Even though the methods of teaching and learning are constantly developing and improving, there will always be a need for education and we will always need people to do the educating.

Mortician

Why it's everlasting: Unless a solution for mortality is found and available to everyone, there will always be a need for someone to care for the deceased.

Scientist

Why it's everlasting: Humans will always ponder our surroundings and how it all works. We need people to dedicate their lives to the cause and effects of ourselves and our environments to deal with changes.

Soldier

Why it's everlasting: Even if you live in a peaceful country, there are today and will always be parts of the world where war and combat are reality. Today every country fears the threat of terrorism and that's why there will always be troops to defend their own and secure peace in other countries.

Construction Worker

Why it's everlasting: In the same way we'll always need food, we'll always need a form of shelter to protect us from the elements. We will always need construction workers to build and repair our buildings.

Religious Leader

Why it's everlasting: As people continue to ponder the meaning of their own existence, a majority find a need for people to assist them with a form of spiritual guidance.

Hairdesser

Why it's everlasting: There are certain things that won't change with technological advancements, such as the fact that we have hair which naturally grows and we want it to look nice. People will always need to have their hair cut and groomed.

Police Officer

Why it's everlasting: The way people commit crime and the different sorts of criminal offences may have changed over the centuries, especially with the rise of the internet, but the fact that people commit crime will never change. So we will always need people to maintain law and order.

Nurse

Why it's everlasting: Just like there will always be a need for doctors to treat patients, there will always be a need for nurses to take care of the sick. In fact, the need for nurses is constantly increasing as the number of old people is growing and so will be age-related illnesses.

Tax Collector

Why it's everlasting: As the old saying goes, "In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes." For all reported income, there will always be a form of collection to support the government and someone will need to collect them.
