NVQ Assessors are required to support people who are working towards National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs). Assessors need to ensure that applicants meet the standards that are required in order to achieve these qualifications. NVQ Assessors identify the skills that people have and then focus on the areas that they need to improve. Assessment is done by supervising people at work and providing feedback about standards that are not being met as part of their duties.

In order to work as an NVQ Assessor you will need to have good knowledge and experience of your particular trade or field. Qualifications wise you will need an assessing certification such as an A1 or D32.  

To work as an Assessor you will need to be prepared to travel to the workplaces of your learners to conduct onsite observations as well as check through evidence portfolios. Good Assessors will keep meticulous records of meetings and evaluations and also liaise with trainees’ immediate supervisors.

NVQ Assessor roles are available in a wide range of fields and industries, these include: Business Administration, Customer Service, DGV, Dental, Cleaning and Support Services, Health and Social Care, Hospitality, Horticulture, Logistics, Security, Taxi & Warehousing  

Due to recent changes, the NVQ Assessor award has  changed from the NVQ Assessor A1 to the QCF Assessor Certificate. As stated above, to apply for NVQ Assessor jobs you must possess an NVQ Assessor qualification. Therefore if you already hold an A1 or D32/33 you will not have to undertake QCF assessor training, but then again might wish to familiarize yourself with the new QCF Assessor Standards.
