NVQs are qualifications that are delivered in the workplace (or in settings that replicate the workplace environment). 

NVQs are based on outcomes, therefore have no fixed learning programme. This enables a flexible delivery which can be shaped to meet the individual candidate’s needs.

NVQs are based on national occupational standards (NOS). These standards define the competencies, knowledge and understanding needed in a particular occupation (almost all covered), and identify which outcomes can be assessed. 

There are NVQs at different levels (1 - 5) depending on the sector. This allows learners to study at a level suitable to their job role and level of experience.

Assessment of NVQs is evidence-based, although other methods of assessment are available for where appropriate. 

QCF is a framework of accredited vocational qualifications that has replaced the NVQ. 

In the QCF framework, a qualification is made up of several units known as "Competence/Knowledge Units". Most qualifications include both Competence Units and Knowledge Units, some have one an not the other.

Working as a QCF Assessor, your job role is to prepare candidates for assessments of their work, for whichever award they are trying to gain within the Qualifications Credits Framework (QCF).  

Assessors are responsible for supporting, motivating, guiding and assessing their candidates who are working towards their QCF.
